We learned about mammals last year and I really wish we'd had this book then. Nerdlet: Animals is such a fun compilation of all kinds of animal facts. It reminded me a bit of Wild Kratts, that science show my kids LOVE and seem to soak up knowledge from (tell me your kids are as obsessed with WK as much as mine are?).

Although
this book is little, only about six by six inches, it packs a lot of information and is a fun size to read. I think its small size also makes it come across as an easy-reading book, as compared to a textbook.

Each animal takes up only a page or two and ALL have at least one photograph. I know I say this all the time, but National Geographic photos are so so amazing and they really help teach and expound on the pages they grace.

All kinds of animals are learned about and interesting facts about them are shared. For instance, I learned that crocodiles shed tears when they eat, but not because they're sad. I had thought that all animals left their parents totally behind after they grew up, but I was wrong! There is a particular female animal that visits her adult mother (I'm not going to tell you what it is!). So sweet, right?

Speaking of sweet things, I learned that honeybees can tell human faces apart. What!? I now wonder if this is why beekeepers rarely get stung? Do their bees recognize them? I have all sorts of questions, now.
Nerdlet: Animals is a fun book that can help readers become even more interested in the animals they read about. It's a clean book with nothing offensive in it and an easy one to carry around in your purse (you know how much I like that!).
