Picture book review: 'Where's Brian's Bottom' is a unique read for young children

My kids didn't know exactly what to think when I unfolded the first few pages of Where's Brian's Bottom. I mean, this book isn't your normal picture book. However, once they caught on to how the book worked, they were all in!

Brian, a dog, seems to have no idea about where his rear end is. I guess losing it is an easy thing to do because it is VERY long. As in, multiple pages long. As in, he looks like a snake with a dog's head, kind of long.

This book is geared toward younger children, probably those who are younger than 5. The plot is a simple one; read the bits of words and unfold the pages until you finally reach the last one, where readers figure out where Brian's bottom is.

The bright colors and simple illustrations again earmark Where's Brian's Bottom as one for preschoolers and younger. Unfolding the book can also be fun for kids and they'll probably want to put the entire book across the floor, so they can take in the loooooong scene.

While this book does deal with a dog's derriere, it doesn't focus on potty or crude humor, which I appreciated.
