Book review: 'A Dragon on the Roof' is a delightful fantasy based on a popular Antoni Gaudí building

Yep, you read that headline correctly. This children's picture book is based on a building. Feeling intrigued? Because I sure did after seeing this book's cover.

"A Dragon on the Roof" is about a little girl named Paloma and the adventure she has when her nanny falls asleep and a dragon comes into her house.

As she searches for her mysterious visitor, she runs along her unique home. And her home is a one-of-a-kind building! Twisty staircases, stained glass windows, oddly-shaped walls, this place is a fun one to look at.

Illustrator Fred Sochard has done a wonderful job illustrating Casa Batlló, an actual building in Spain designed by architect Antoni Gaudí and a main tourist attraction. In the back of this book, it shows actual photos from the Casa, proving that Sochard did an amazing job with his illustrations.

When this book came, along with three others for me to review, all of my kids declared this one to be their favorites of the lot. The fantastical adventures of Paloma are fun to read about and the illustrations are amazing. But after they read the back few pages and realized this home actually exists, they were all on board for a trip to Spain.

"A Dragon on the Roof" is a clean read with nothing offensive in it. This book is a great way to learn about an actual building and help kids want to learn more about architecture and culture.
