Did you know there's a restaurant in the Maldives where you can eat dinner 6 feet under the ocean? It's called Subsix and has windows at the tables, so diners can watch fish swim by. Pretty cool, right?
You probably won't be surprised to know that I learned that via a book called, Weird but True!: Ocean. This is a book review site, after all!
This little book only measures six-and-a-half by six-and-a-half inches, but I really liked its small size because it was easy to stash in my purse for those oft-occurring occasions when I want to have something to read.
Weird but True!: Ocean is not a book on oceanography or marine biology. It is, however, a fun book with amazing photos that accompany each interesting ocean-related fact. And, in case you didn't see the above image, there are more than 300 of such facts; wow!
Since I quite enjoy trivia, I'll share some of my favorite pieces of ocean knowledge.
Sea cucumbers breathe through their rears. My kids thought that was hilarious piece of information.
Every morning, seahorse couples dance with each other. Romantic, right?
The white-sand beaches in Hawaii are mostly made up of parrotfish poop. Bwahahahaha!
Weird but True!: Ocean is a fun book that can help pique interest in marine biology and (hopefully) encourage kids to continue studying subjects of interest. This book has nothing offensive in it.
