There was something about reading
Willow the Therapy Dog that was just so heartwarming. I think it was seeing Megan, Willow's owner (handler?) spend so much of her day taking Willow around to the hospital, a school, and even a veteran's hospital all to help people feel loved. It seems fitting, then, that this last
Doggy Defenders book has ended up being my favorite.
Willow is a rescued racing greyhound who wears a special red vest when she's on therapy duty. She lets people pet her, love her, and basically just goes around being social as her job.
When she's done working, she comes home and gets comfy in her plaid pajamas. Willow also has a favorite stuffed animal friend and loves cuddling with Megan's shoes.

Reading about Willow is a great way to help open conversations with kids about what therapy dogs are used for and how they can help others. At the back of the book there are also suggestions for how kids can help their communities in their own ways.

These
Doggy Defenders books have been fun to read through and review. My kids and I have learned a lot about the occupations dogs can have. See my other reviews here for
Stella the Search Dog,
Dolley the Fire Dog, and
Tiger the Police Dog.
