Book review: 'Ocean: Secrets of the deep' is a captivating and educational read

"Ocean: Secrets of the deep" taught me many things. The first thing it taught me was that books don't have to contain glaring colors and large, in-your-face, fonts to grab a kid's attention. Nope, a book can have a muted color theme and a normal font size and still be a sought-after volume.

The other things "Ocean" taught me are too many to list. But I will tell you all that I learned a lot, I mean, A LOT, about oceans. Aaaaaand I guess I should mention a few of the many things I've learned about the watery area that takes up most of our planet. I mean, this IS a book review, after all.

There are almost twenty sections in this educational picture book and each one teaches both succinctly and briefly. Ocean topics are taught well, but without an overt amount of information so topics never get old.

I particularly enjoyed reading through the "Voyages of the Deep" section. See that photo above? That's one of the pages in "Voyages of the Deep." Each page covers different depths of the ocean and talks about the kinds of plant and fish life found there. I found it fascinating to read short synopses about the ocean and I've finally started to grasp just how little we humans know about it.

"Ocean" also teaches about kelp forests, mangroves, polar regions, and the crazy symbiotic relationships found in the ocean. The sounds fish make, how they disguise themselves, and the vast distances some travel are also covered. This book is seriously so interesting and I'm very excited to add it to my family's library.

In a few months, I'll be teaching my kids about Marine Biology (we're starting off with a Botany section) and I'm going to hide this book until we start studying about oceans. Unfortunately, my son already got his hands on this book the day it came in the mail and has finished it. He spent hours pouring over its pages and I now understand his fascination with it.

"Ocean: Secrets of the Deep" is a wonderfully educational book with nothing offensive in it.
