Book review: 'William Sheepspeare' is colorful board book for kids that can leave adults chuckling out loud

Board books are usually reserved for toddlers, right? At least, that's what I thought. Then I was sent "William Sheepspeare" and am now questioning everything I thought I knew.

"William Sheepspeare" is a board book that will probably mean more to adults than kids. However, kids will still enjoy the story which they might think is about a sheep, but is actually about William Shakespeare, the person.

This board book is only 16 pages long, but it teaches many facts about Shakespeare's life using sheep words. Does that make sense? As in, William Sheepspeare was known as the "Baa-rd of Avon." Get it? Baa-rd instead of bard?

Every page has at least one word that's been sheepified (totally made that word up on my own, just roll with it). And, while toddlers probably won't get the wittiness of the sheepy words, adults sure will. And with the hours we adults spend reading board books to our kids, it's about time we're entertained by one of them. Just sayin.

The full-color illustrations are delightful and definitely can be enjoyed by toddlers. Older kids to grandparents can enjoy the witty sheepisms and being reminded just how great of an author Shakespeare was.

"William Sheepspeare" has nothing offensive in it and is a kid-friendly book. It is written by Courtney Acampora, Maggie Fischer, and illustrated by Benedetta Capriotti.
