Places I'm loving in Davis County

We've lived here almost a year now (a year!?!) and I'm loving this area.

A few of my kids and I went on a little walk along Kays Creek Parkway a few weeks ago. It was seriously so gorgeous. And all the plant life smelled amazing. We went on the perfect day because it was much more humid than it normally is in Utah, so things smelled extra good.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who enjoys the smells of plants and flowers in the humidity. Humidity just adds a whole new dimension to smells.

Anyway, look at this gorgeous place:
As we were coming back (did I mention the pathway is paved? And wide? So awesome when you have littles who are determined to bike/walk/scooter on their own) we heard crying behind us. A little boy, about kindergarten age, came frantically biking down the path.

I asked him what was wrong; he looked at me for a second and then stopped his bike. I'm guessing his stranger-danger antenna went down when he saw a pregnant woman pushing a stroller with two kids and decided talking to me could be helpful.

He confided that he'd lost his mom and was nervous. He told me which paths he'd biked up and down and was scared because he couldn't find her on any of them. I pulled my phone out and asked if he knew his mom's phone number. He rattled some digits off and, just as I was plugging them into my phone, his mom came around the bend.

Phew! So scary for him. But I'm glad it turned out well.

After we left them I asked one of my kids if she knew my phone number. She did. But not the area code. Hopefully she knows it now that I've drilled it into her.

Okay, I got distracted.

Another place we love in Davis County is the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve (that's a mouthful). It's a pretty fun bird habitat.

Now, to be honest, we actually haven't seen many birds here. Maybe that's because every time we go we bring all our kids and they aren't the best at staying quiet. At all. Actually, they probably scare the birds away.

But even though we only see a handful of birds, they still love it.
Isn't that a cool structure? There are several there similar to this one.

The pathway is almost entirely made of wood planks. It goes through a lot of marshy areas and it's fun to hear frogs croaking next to us as we walk along.

Next up: a bunch of book reviews!
